How to fix the F1 fault on an ideal boiler?

What causes the Ideal F1 error/fault code?

The ideal boiler F1 error code is displayed on ideal boilers such as ideal logic, ideal logic max and ideal logic+. The error is displayed when your ideal boiler has low water pressure.

Water pressure can be lost from the central heating system over time, however it could also be caused by Water leaking from the pipes, water leaking from your radiators or a leak in the boiler itself. Typically the system will just need re-pressurising instead of it being a major repair.

If your low water pressure is caused by a leak or you suspect a leak within your system, you can call or message Hug boilers for our gas safe engineers to help and advise. If you do not suspect a leak we will explain how to re-pressurise the system yourself.

How do I read my boiler’s pressure gauge?

The first step is to read your ideal boiler’s pressure gauge. The gauge is usually placed underneath your boiler and resembles a watch face consisting of a dial and the water pressure levels should be shown on the dial. This should typically range from 0 – 4.0.

If the water pressure is within the typical range it should be between 1.5 and 2.0 (the green zone), this may mean there is an issue with the pressure sensor. This is when you should contact Hug Boilers to get a gas safe engineer to test your sensor and replace it if necessary.

If your dial on the pressure gauge is below 1 (the red critical zone) this means the F1 error shown is correct. This means there is not enough water flow to heat your radiators or water. You can alter the pressure yourself , however it is not advised until you know what has caused the pressure to drop in the first place.

If the low pressure in your system is caused by a leak these are commonly found around joints usually caused by corrosion. If you do find a leak you will need support from Hug’s specialist gas safe engineers to fix a leak. If your boiler does however keep losing pressure then it is likely that there is a leak somewhere in your heating system.

How do I re-pressurise my boiler system myself?

To re-pressurise the system yourself, you can do this by finding the filling loop which is just below your boiler, near the pressure gauge and it should also have a valve attached. Proceed to open the valve on the filling loop. This will allow water to enter your heating system. You should leave this valve open until the needle on the pressure gauge is in the green zone.

Once you have re-pressurised your heating system and there are no obvious leaks, you should reset your boiler. This should be done by following your boiler manual instructions and is typically straightforward. If your boiler pressure is maintained within the green zone then it should not show the F1 error code anymore.
